Coexistence is an exhibition that asks how beings with different senses and conditions can relate, respond, and live together within a shared space. It regards people with disabilities not as beneficiaries of art and culture but as subjects of sensation and expression, exploring the possibilities of new perception at the meeting point of different artistic disciplines and bodily experiences.
Coexistence approaches this question through interactive installation. The work responds to the sound, movement, and presence of visitors within the exhibition space, generating visual change. Here sound is not a mere backdrop or supporting element, but a subject in its own right — one that moves through space and gives rise to image. In particular, the live performance of a visually impaired musician enters into a real-time relationship with the work, revealing how an unseen sense can compose a space and be transmitted to others.
In this work, "coexistence" is not a beautiful slogan but a process in which different senses are continually attuned to one another. Those who see, those who hear, those who play, and the moving installation do not remain fixed in their positions; they affect and are affected by one another. Rather than treating the boundary between disabled and non-disabled as a fixed division, the work attends to the moment when different modes of sensation meet to create a single artistic scene.
Coexistence proposes that to exist together is not simply to occupy the same place, but to respond to one another's senses and to gradually adjust one's own way of being. Through the relationships between the seen and the heard, the sensed and the revealed, it offers the meaning of being-together as a living, sensory experience.
